The Big Book

From The SpiritWiki

The Big Book[1] is the Alcoholics Anonymous bible. It is a set of instructions, personal stories and anecdotes, and heartfelt advice designed to help alcoholics have authentic and powerful spiritual experiences (what on the LP we call Connection Experiences) capable of healing trauma caused by Toxic Socialization, filling unmet needs, and curing them of intractable alcohol addiction. In LP terms, the Big Book is a healing and connection manual.

Notes

AA was co-founded by Bill Wilson who himself had a powerful mystical experience that instantly cured him of a dire alcohol addiction.

In the early years, when AA was most open and focussed on facilitating spiritual experience, they are said to have had a 75% cure rate.[2]

The Big Book has a decidedly Western/Christian flavour, but note that Connection Manuals and Healing Manuals come in many flavours.

Students of the LP will note many significant parallels between the advice provided in the Big Book on honesty (i.e. not Lying), acknowledging misalignment and disjuncture, making amends (i.e. Atonement, being an active change agent (Activation)), and guidance provided in LP Book One, which discusses the LP HEALING Framework, and LP Workbook Two, which discusses the LP Connection Framework.
