An '''Archetypal Constellation''' is a collection of archetypes that are meaningfully related and that work together in some way to establish certain conditions in consciousness (e.g. for example compliance and obedience to authority). For example, in the Western tarot system The Fool, The Magician, Chariot, The Wheel, and The World may all be considered part of the "life is pain" or "fool in school" archetypal constellation (see [[The Book of the Triumph of Spirit Master Key]]. Taken together these archetypes set the idea in our consciousness that pain and suffering should be accepted, allowed to exist, or even welcomed and encouraged.

The boundaries of  archetypal constellations are fluid. Other tarot archetypes could be included in the "life is pain" constellation, or not. In the final analysis all [[Old Book]] archetypes fit into an archetypal constellation we might identify as The Slave constellation, a constellation designed to encourage compliance, authority, and the acceptance (where necessary) of punishment and incarceration.
