A self-conception is a conception of who we are. It includes our answers to the “big questions” as well as our opinions and evaluations of self. Speaking in very general terms, some people may have a positive self-conception, and others a negative. Some may have a materialist self-conception (we’re just dust in the wind) and some a spiritual self-conception
