Pastoral Comfort is an evolutionary challenge that occurs at the end of Stage One: Emergence. At the end of Stage One, a species has reached a stage of technological expertise that (hunting, husbandry, agriculture) that allows them to live comfortable and content on the land. The achievement of pastoral comfort reduces the motivation of a species to develop since life is good, long, and fun. To avoid Stagnation and enter into Stage Two: Expansion, a species must overcome the challenge of pastoral comfort.
