Peace be unto them is a phrase of identification and protection. It is issued by Muslims whenever they speak or write about any recognized Prophet, including Jesus Christ, Muhammed, Moses, and so on. The phrase identifies an individual as a recognized prophet, and provides a statement of Expectation regarding peace and (by implication) safety.
