Connection manuals are a recognized thing in the spiritual literature of this world. When introducing the Crest-Jewel of Wisdom, an early Vedic connection manual by Śankarâchârya, Charles Johnston notes he wrote a series of "preparatory works, of catechisms and manuals" designed to make "smooth the path of those who would take the first steps on the path of wisdom." Charles notes "the manuals and catechisms for learners, are complete and perfect. They really teach, quite plainly and lucidly, the first steps on the path of wisdom; they point out, with clear insistence, the qualities that are necessary to make these first steps fruitful."[2]
