Outer Connection
Outer Connection involves the emergence of authentic, resonant, and compassionate relationships with other people, animals, natural systems, the cosmos, and even material artifacts of human culture. These connections occur through shared presence within the Fabric of Consciousness, and are strengthened by empathy, attunement, and mutual recognition.

In To Have or To Be[1] Erich Fromm distinguishes two aspects of his Being Mode, one is "aliveness and authentic relatedness to the world" and the other refers to "the true nature, the true reality, of a person or a thing." (p. 24). The former is Outer Connection. The latter is Inner Connection
Fromm discusses outer connection as important and one of the strongest motivators of human behaviour.
The human desire to experience union with others is rooted in the specific conditions of existence that characterize the human species and is one of the strongest motivators of human behavior.[2]
He characterizes this as source motivation of alignment, but I would argue the two are different, or that alignment is actually the source need. We need to be in alignment in order to be able to connect. In Chapter Five of To Have or to Be, Fromm gives many examples of this need working itself out in both toxic and healthy ways.
