Notes

"It is a matter of frequent observation that they [Marxists] have not only borrowed many of their central doctrines from Christianity and Judaism, but also share many aspects of the general religious point of view. Von Hugel was perhaps the first to note the great similarity between the apocalyptic and the Marxist interpretation of the movement of history....This is not a chance relationship, for there is a direct historical connection between the Marxist pattern of thought and Christianity."
