The Event
The Event is the shorthand used by the uber-rich and their advisers for a coming civilizational collapse initiated by climate catastrophe, pandemic, social unrest, or systemic breakdown of the money system itself. Coined in Douglas Rushkoff's Survival of the Richest,[1] the term captures a peculiar eschatology: catastrophe is anticipated not as a collective problem to be prevented, but as a personal logistics problem to be survived, hence the bunkers, airstrips, and New Zealand passports.[2] Sociologically, "The Event" names the moment when the wealthy expect the social contract underwriting their fortunes to expire.
