Notes

This phrase is inspired by Maslow's comment about the "Big Bang" theory of self-actualization.[1]

Maslow suggests that dramatic connection experiences are just "openers," and that following these openers there is a considerable amount of "working through" that must occur. Maslow rightly points out that this gets lost by "youngster." I would also suggest that people are also misled, either consciously or unconsciously, about the nature of connection, the work involved, and the actual, medium-term goal which is the achievement of Permanent Connection.

"Too many young people delude themselves with the "Big_ Bang" theory of self-actualization. One of our tasks is to communicate better with young people and give them a greater appreciation of patience and for the miraculous ele- ments in ordinary existence."[2]
