- needs need not be hierarchical. They are all equally necessary. The idea that there is a "hierarchy" of needs stems from the fact that the point of reference is embedded into a specific historical context. This framework makes it plausible, that all needs work for the common goal of self-actualization. Hence, they are all the same need. Just like each element of a car is created for the sake of driving around, so are the elements of the body. If the steering wheel does not respond (unconnected body/crown chakra) or the gas (solar plexus chakra) and break won't function, or the lights (third eye chakra) won't turn on, the car has a problem. Nevertheless, all elements work towards the same goal//purpose/need. It makes just as much sense to say that the breaks are more important/ more basic than the lights or the responsiveness of the steering wheel, as to say that the physiological needs are more important/basic than the need to connect or the need to understand. In the end, from the grander scheme of things, the dangers of a PU driving fast without sight and unresponsive is just as problematic as a vehicle stranded in the desert without gas.

This is why i'd propose a circular scheme. In the center is the need for self actualization, while all chakras are surrounding it and work explicitly towards this need pointing towards the center. Around the chakras is another set of needs which are more specific.

The idea that survival is more basic than for instance connection or understanding was mostly valid because the cars were driving really slowly. Now, due to hightened technology, certain members of society drive entire trains around with lots of people on board. Now, we can't ignore the fact that one wrong turn and the train might get derailed. Without understanding and connection survival is not possible. From this perspective, understanding and connection seems more basic, because it ensures a better functioning of the vehicle. (Which, obviously also includes survival)

Energetic Perspective of Needs

Here's an approach of needs seen through the lens of energies. Needs are generated by the chakras. Each chakra is programmed to function. In case one or more chakras do not function properly, then the body generates needs in order to create an incentive towards fulfilment of the reason of existence of the specific chakra. Needs are generated due to a pull following the lack of energies.

Imagine a room with an infinite amount of gas and another room which is capable of capturing that gas - your physical unit. The chakras are a portal through which these energies (gas) flow into your room (PU). You may imagine the chakra as a semipermeable membrane which allows energy to flow from the room with infinite energy into the room which is your PU. If the pressure in the PU is very low, due to the lack of gas, naturally, this void creates a pull of the gas towards the PU. Needs are the requirements meeting the condition of healthy energetic usage.

In this metaphor, needs are the pull.

The specific chakra takes this energy, shapes it according to its function (into its specific form) and pushes it into our reality. This energy is further shaped by the structure of the PU (conditioning), finally manifesting into the world. In case the needs are fulfiled, this means the conditions are met for a healthy functioning of the chakra.

Notes

This explanation associates needs with purpose.

Every need is generated by the purpose of the specific chakra. Likewise, more general needs might be distinguished and also associated with the purpose.

For instance, the Need for Allignment is a need generated by the purpose of the PU to be a responsive and expressive conduit/vehicle/manifestation device for spirit.

Generally, we could (and should) shape our society according to our needs. Associating needs with purpose provides a "justification"/explanation to do so.

We could, for instance, take this idea, and create economic systems that meet these goals, social forms that meet these goals, educational and pedagogic practices that meet these goals etc.

Utopia now, one of the mottos of the LP, is not far fetched if we agree on our needs and aim to create a (global) society which is designed to meet these needs.

Some further ideas:

- needs need not be hierarchical. They are all equally necessary. The idea that there is a "hierarchy" of needs stems from the fact that the point of reference is embedded into a specific historical context. We could change the point of reference into the "ultimate" need (without historic context), which is the need for allignment/ the need for self actualization.
