Ahimsa

Ahimsa (Sanskrit: a-himsa, from himsa, "to strike or kill" — thus, "the absence of the desire to kill or harm"). [1] is the foundational ethical commitment to actively reduce and, where possible, eliminate harm in all its forms, toward all forms of life without exception. It is not mere passive non-aggression toward other humans, but a standing intention and practice of non-harming that extends universally: to human beings, to animals, and even to insects and other seemingly insignificant creatures, as well as to the ecosystems that sustain them.

Notes

Ahimsa is a principle component of Jainism

Understood within the Lightning Path, ahimsa means refusing to engage in violence of any kind — physical, emotional, psychological, institutional, or spiritual — because all violence diminishes a being's potential; it means allowing the intrinsic conscience to govern conduct; and it functions as an indispensable prerequisite for personal healing, alignment of the bodily ego with the spiritual ego, and full connection with consciousness. In its fullest expression, ahimsa is the aligned responsibility to uplift all of creation.
