Rebirth experiences are common in indigenous cultures, and in fact are encouraged by rite and ritual. "...the general pattern and purpose of the ritual are the same. He "dies" to the former life of childhood and of ignorance of esoteric knowledge and "rises" or is "reborn" to a new life.
