The study involved the development of a short screening tool, the ACE questionnaire, which asks about 10 types of childhood trauma that were shown to be most common. The ACE Score, a total sum of the different types of abuse experienced, is used to assess cumulative childhood stress. The study found that a higher ACE Score increases the risk of many health and social problems. The results of the ACE Study have been published in many scientific articles, which have expanded our understanding of the ways in which childhood stress can impact adult health and well-being.
