The term is popular in New Age circles where it typically refers to one-way communication that occurs as a result of temporary [[Connection]].

Technically, channeling occurs when the [[Bodily Ego]] of the [[Physical Unit]] connects to one or more [[Monadic Consciousness|monads]] that are "at a distance" from (i.e. not closely related to the) [[Resident Monadic Consciousness]], and receives their thoughts. As such, channeling is a form of [[Intramonadic Communication]]

Initiation of Intermonadic Communication is not difficult and can sometimes occur spontaneously, especially in times of crises when the [[Physical Unit]] may be desperate for assistance, and more open as a result. Communication may also occur spontaneously when the psychological and emotional boundaries of the [[Physical Unit]] have been damaged by [[Toxic Socialization]]. Communication may be intentionally initiated by opening an [[Information Stream]] using visualization, intent, and/or [[Connection Supplements]].

While opening to channel is easy, there are many pitfalls. [[Ego Damage]] can lead to [[Communication Errors]] or worse (e.g. loss of individual identity). Improper grounding and training may lead to confabulation and [[Communication Error|Communication Errors]]. If an individual "chaneller" has an audience, misconception and misdirection may be dispersed into the [[Collective Consciousness]].

Various types of channeling may be identified including [[Conscious Channeling]], [[Trance Channeling]] and [[Promiscuous Channeling]].

[[William James]] relates the experience of a forty-nine year old man who "channels" God.
