==Notes==

The EGN is mystified, obscured, and hard to pin down. It "is constituted of no fewer than three macrohistorical models, each with their own implications and internal logic, may have been a weakness theoretically, but could be an advantage in practice. The very ambiguity of the narrative gave it a peculiar flexibility: it allowed authors – provided they possessed sufficient erudition and rhetorical skill – to have recourse to different apologetic strategies at different times or to mix elements taken from all three models, and thereby elude their critics almost forever in a never-ending maze of references to unquestionable authorities."<ref>Hanegraaff, Wouter J. ''Esotericism and the Academy: Rejected Knowledge in Western Culture''. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2012.</ref>

The EGN is a [[Creation Tempolate]] designed to prop up and perpetuate the elite's extant [[Regime of Accumulation]]

The EGN can be traced in part to the the activities of elite high priests in Persian working to prop up the empire of Persian Autocrat Ardashir<ref>Sosteric, Mike. “From Zoroaster to Star Wars, Jesus to Marx: The Art, Science, and Technology of Human Manipulation,” Unpublished. https://www.academia.edu/34504691.</ref>

This phrase is inspired by Maslow's comment about the "Big Bang" theory of self-actualization.<ref>Maslow, A. H. "Lessons from the Peak-Experiences." Journal of Humanistic Psychology 2 1 (1962): p. 120. </ref>

Maslow suggests that dramatic connection experiences are just "openers," and that following these openers there is a considerable amount of "working through" that must occur. Maslow rightly points out that this gets lost by "youngster." I would also suggest that people are also misled, either consciously or unconsciously, about the nature of connection, the work involved, and the actual, medium-term goal which is the achievement of [[Permanent Connection]].

"Too many young people delude themselves with the "Big_ Bang" theory of self-actualization. One of our tasks is to communicate better with young people and give them a greater appreciation of patience and for the miraculous ele- ments in ordinary existence."<ref>Maslow, A. H. "Lessons from the Peak-Experiences." Journal of Humanistic Psychology 2 1 (1962): p. 120. </ref>

The four videos in this [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLS_OGW0T24g2E3FmGd545fUuqb1FsseBm YouTube Playlist - What is Money: Capitalism, Socialism, Communism] teach about the current Regime of Accumulation, how it works, why we don't see it (the mystification of money), and what we can do about it.

The System (i.e., Capitalism) is responsible for the impoverishment of the planet.<ref>Sullivan, Dylan, and Jason Hickel. “Capitalism and Extreme Poverty: A Global Analysis of Real Wages, Human Height, and Mortality since the Long 16th Century.” ''World Development'' 161 (January 1, 2023): 106026. <nowiki>https://doi.org/10.1016/j.worlddev.2022.106026</nowiki>.</ref> It did not reduce extreme poverty, it created it.

: Data on real wages suggests that, historically, extreme poverty was uncommon and arose primarily during periods of severe social and economic dislocation, particularly under colonialism.
: The rise of capitalism from the long 16th century onward is associated with a decline in wages to below subsistence, a deterioration in human stature, and an upturn in premature mortality.
: In parts of South Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America, wages and/or height have still not recovered.
: Where progress has occurred, significant improvements in human welfare began only around the 20th century. These gains coincide with the rise of anti-colonial and socialist political movements.<ref>All the above from Sullivan, Dylan, and Jason Hickel. “Capitalism and Extreme Poverty: A Global Analysis of Real Wages, Human Height, and Mortality since the Long 16th Century.” ''World Development'' 161 (January 1, 2023): 106026. <nowiki>https://doi.org/10.1016/j.worlddev.2022.106026</nowiki>.</ref>

"The Most Wicked are always those in Power—The whole History of Humanity is the History of the Forcible Appropriation of Power by the Wicked and their Oppression of the Good."<ref>Tolstoy, Leo. The Kingdom of God Is Within You (Classics To Go) EBook: Leo Tolstoy: Amazon.ca: Gateway. Translated by Constance Garnett. CreateSpace, 2016. https://amzn.to/2Dg2jtj</ref>

According to Ruyle<ref>Ruyle, Eugene E. “Mode of Production and Mode of Exploitation: The Mechanical and the Dialectical.” Dialectical Anthropology 1, no. 1 (1975): 7–23. https://doi.org/10.1007/bf00244565.</ref>, any Regime of Accumulation will consist of a particular [[Mode of Exploitation]].

The current ''Regime of Accumulation'' is a [[Capitalism|capitalist]] regime. For an explication, see the [https://www.amazon.ca/Rocket-Scientists-Guide-Money-Economy/dp/1897455119 Rocket Scientists' Guide to Money and the Economy].

An excellent overview of how the rich rig The System to benefit them is provided by economist Dean Beaker.<ref>Baker, Dean. Rigged: How Globalization and the Rules of the Modern Economy Were Structures to Make the Rich Richer. Washington, DC: Center for Economic and Policy Research, 2016. https://deanbaker.net/images/stories/documents/Rigged.pdf.</ref>

Ruyle uses the phrase [[Mode of Exploitation]] to refer to The System. Ruyle breaks the mode of exploitation down into three interrelated systems, Exploitative Techniques, Mechanism of Force, and Ideological Institutions. Each of these systems work together to enable and propagate the exploitation fo the masses. His schema is a useful wayt to conceptualize the system.

The System encourages compliance and violence: Zimbardo, of Stanford Prison Experiment fame, speaks of a part of the System that aims at encouraging people towards compliance and violence. "However, I would have missed the big picture, the bigger power for creating evil out of good—that of the System, the complex of powerful forces that create the Situation."<ref>Zimbardo, Philip. The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil. New York: Random House, 2007.</ref> His book details the forces that cause good people to do bad things.

Zimbardo notes, in the case of Nazis and their mass murder, that getting people to do evil things involves casting the opponent as an evil enemy, and then giving official "permission" to carry out sadistic acts. <ref>Zimbardo, Philip. The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil. New York: Random House, 2007.</ref>. The tools for labelling others as evil enemies, and the ideological underpinning that facilitates permission, can be found in the [[Old Energy Creation Template]]

The current, [[Stage Five]] system is a Capitalist [[Regime of Accumulation]]. <ref>Sosteric. Rocket Scientists’ Guide to Money and the Economy: Accumulation and Debt. St Albert, Alberta: Lightning Path Press., 2016.</ref>. In order for the planet to move on to [[Stage Seven]], the [[Regime of Accumulation]] must be replaced with a [[Regime of Distribution]] that fairly and sustainably distributes the planet's bounty.

'''Awareness Reduction Mechanisms''' (ARMs), are a subclass of [[Defense Mechanisms]]. They are strategies that the [[Bodily Ego]] can use to reduce awareness of itself, its physical and mental condition, the "room" that it's in, and the condition of its life. ARMS are typically deployed in order to reduce pain, suffering, guilt, shame, and the [[disjuncture]] that arises from internal [[Alignment|misalignment]] or external violence and abuse. Several ARMS exist, the most common being:
</blockquote>
==Notes==

ARMs are broken down into two categories, [[Externally Directed ARMs]] and [[Internally Directed Arms]].

There are four basic categories of ARMs.

Primary ARM -> Repression
Secondary ARMs -> Denial, Rationalization, Diversion/Distraction, Intellectualization, Compartmentalization
Tertiary ARMs -> Reaction Formation, Gaslightning,
Pathological ARMs -> Dissociation, Regression, Conversion

ExternalArms
Compartmentalization – suppressing awareness by breaking your life and your cognitive/emotional processes into discrete spaces. When you come home at night, you block out exploitation and abuse you perpetrate at work. When you go to work in the morning, you block out violence in the home. When you go to Church, you do not think about the hypocrisies in your daily life.
Denial– simple refusal to accept reality “as it is.” My mom beat me with a wooden spoon and leather belts, but she denies it to this day. The equivalent external ARM is repression.
Distortion – reshaping reality to avoid awareness of disjunctive realities. “What doesn’t kill you leaves a scar” justifications distort our understanding of violence and abuse and provide a justification for them.
Humor is a form of distortion. Using humor to change the “meaning” of reality. Making sexist, racist, homophobic jokes in an attempt to render the abusive behaviours acceptable, or gain social support.
Intellectualization – Not a defense mechanisms by itself, but a particular form of compartmentalization, dissociation, diversion, using the powers of the intellect
Dissociation – detachment from reality. Disconnection, especially intellectual. Daydreaming through dissociative disorders and fugue.
Diversion/Distraction – engaging in other activities, behaviours that draw attention away from issues in reality. For example, getting into a running club and spending all your time away from family in order to avoid the toxicities/issues at home.
Rationalization – “the justification of one's behaviour and motivations by substituting "good" acceptable reasons for the actual motivations.”

Internal Arms

Dissociation – detachment from reality. Disconnection, especially emotional.1 Daydreaming. Dissociative disorders. Typically used in an attempt to avoid stress/pain/conflict in the environment.
• Diversion/Distraction – engaging in other activities, behaviours that allow one draw attention away from feelings. For example, getting into a running club and spending your entire time running. Includes obsessions, compulsions, hypochondriasis, etc.
• Repression – forced submersion of thoughts (I am doing something wrong) and feelings, like guilt, shame, etc. For the equivalent internal ARM, see Denial.
• Regression – fall back to childhood states, allowing only simpler, childlike emotions and awareness.
• Projection – projecting guilt, shame, other negative emotions and thoughts onto others.
• Reaction formation – choreographing the opposite emotions. Denial.

Maslow has some interesting things to say about defense mechanisms, especially in light of the LP concept of [[Alignment]], also about the nature of therapy (it is about uncovering rather than molding, and that even neurosis are somehow aimed at the g\ratification of human needs (see [[Seven Essential Needs]]. Thus for example OCD may be an attempt to satisfy one's need for safety by routinizing activity and blocking out toxic impositions.

"A fifth axiom of self-actualization theory is my contention-as yet unproven that neurosis must be considered a psychological defense and not basic to human
nature. Furthermore, neurosis must be viewed as a defense against the intrinsic self, our deeper layers, full humanness, growth, and self-actualization. From this assumption, I have argued vigorously that effective counseling and psychotherapy are Taoistic or uncovering, rather than involving mainly shaping,molding, or indoctrinating....It may be relevant to point out here that ordinary neurosis and even the valve pathologies like delinquency may consequently be viewed as efforts toward the gratification of basic and meta-needs, but under the conditions of anxiety, fear, lack of courage." <ref>———. “Critique of Self-Actualization. I. Some Dangers of Being-Cognition.” Journal of Individual Psychology 15, no. 1 (May 1, 1959): 24. p. 105</ref>

For LP purposes, we break ARMs down into two general categories, External ARMs and Internal ARMs. External ARMs are defense mechanisms aimed at reducing awareness of things external to the individual, like the behaviour of others, conditions at work, bullying by students/teachers, etc. Internal ARMs are defense mechanisms aimed at reducing awareness of things internal to the individual, like disjunctive shame and guilt, or awareness of complicity, etc.

An individual may deploy several ARMs at the same time.
==Notes==

The western Tarot is often presented as a tool that can help the "fool" successfully navigate life's lessons. For example, Rachel Pollack says "Today, we see the Tarot as a kind of path, a way to personal growth through understanding of ourselves and life. To some the Tarot's origin remains a vital question; for others it only matters that meanings have accrued to the cards over the years."<ref>Pollack, Rachel. Seventy Eight Degrees of Wisdom. Harper Collins, 1980. p. 6.</ref>

The Tarot was designed by Freemasons throughout the 18th and 19th centuries to serve an elite agenda (Sosteric, 2014; Decker, Depaulis, & Dummett, 1996). Freemasons obscured the elite ideology and agenda by successfully presenting their work as reflective of ancient spiritual wisdom. The presentation of the Tarot as something other than a reflection of elite ideas about management and control prompted Decker, Depaulis & Dummett (1996) to suggest that the Masonic Tarot was the...

<blockquote>...most successful propaganda campaign ever launched: not by a very long way the most important, but the most completely successful. An entire false history, and false interpretation, of the Tarot pack was concocted by the occultists; and it is all but universally believed.</blockquote>

The ideological function of the tarot system is obscured by efforts to present the cards as "sacred" in some way. This original effort was conducted by Freemasons who attempted to link the tarot archetypes o ancient Egyptian wisdom. In modern times, it is innocently perpetuated by tarot aficionados. One popular tarot website informs us that the “seventy-eight Tarot cards, the archetype cards, teach us “what we need to learn and master to live an inspired life.”<ref>https://www.biddytarot.com/learn-tarot/</ref></blockquote>

There are two parts of a Masonic Tarot deck, the Major Arcana or "trump" cards, and the minor arcana. The twenty-two major arcana are [[Archetypes]]. Taken together the twenty-two Masonic archetypes form an Old Energy [[Creation Template]].

Many commentators try to read in progressive spiritual and political elements, where none exist. We call this an attempt to "recover" authenticity. For example, "The Tarot, however, is a path of liberation. The fear that Jahweh expresses, that human beings 'will become like us' , is precisely the Tarot's purpose - to fully bring out the divine spark in us and unite it with our conscious selves, to end the duality of God and human and make them one. Therefore, though it keeps much of the same symbolism as Genesis, the Rider pack Lovers subtly reverses the meaning." <ref>Pollack, Rachel. Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom. Harper Collins, 1980. p. 62. </ref>

The Western Tarot deck is a relatively complete reflection of the Western [[Creation Template]]. The Western Tarot is a recollection of twenty-two major "arcana" (really [[archetypes]]) and fifty-six minor elaborations on those archetypes.

The ideology of the tarot, the tarot archetypes, occupy a contested space. Even though most authors adopt and retransmit Masonic tropes, there is modification as authors attempt to bring psychological, emotional, or spiritual authenticity to the system. You can find examples of this under the "Recovery" heading in the tarot card entries (see below).

The [[Triumph of Spirit Archetype System]] (TOSAS) provides a complete break with masonic, old energy archetypes.

===The Archetypes===

The Masonic Tarot contains the following twenty-two [[Old Energy Archetypes]].

{{#ask:[[Is an::Old Energy Archetype]]}}

The Masonic teachings contain two components, a [[Book of Power]] component and a [[Book of Slavery]] component. The Book of Power comprises the esoteric teachings, taught in private and kept largely secret, while the Book of Slavery comprises the exoteric teachings, which are spread widely in order to control the thinking of the masses.
New energy creates a world of balance, harmony, unity, prosperity, and peace. New Energy is generated when Consciousness is filtered through [[New Energy Archetypes]] in the mind.
New energy is dramatically different, and much more powerful, than [[Old Energy]]. Old Energy is imbalanced, violent, implosive, aggressive, depressing, destructive and explosive. New energy is balanced, gentle, expansive, uplifting, generative, inclusive, and (over the long term) indomitable.
New energy is generated by individuals working with [[New Energy Archetypes]] in a [[New Energy Creation Template]], like the [https://tosas.lightningpath.org/ Triumph of Spirit] [[New Energy Creation Template]].
'''Drumming''' is a common shamanic method used to open a [[Connection]] to [[Consciousness]]. It is used in many ancient indigenous societies,<ref>Rogers, Spencer L. The Shaman: His Symbols and His Healing Power. Illinois: Charles Thomas Publishers, 1982.</ref> as well as in modern shamanic practice.
</blockquote>

==List of Connection Practices==

[[Connection Practice]] > {{#ask:[[Is a::Connection Practice]]}}

==Notes==

An early study by Neher demonstrated the impact on drumming on brainwave patterns.<ref>Neher, Andrew. “Auditory Driving Observed with Scalp Electrodes in Normal Subjects.” Electroencephalography & Clinical Neurophysiology 13 (1961): 449–51. https://doi.org/10.1016/0013-4694(61)90014-1.</ref>. Neher called the phenomenon Auditory Driving.

Neher notes that in some ceremonies, drums become louder and the beats accelerated as [[Connection]] ("trance") is achieved.<ref>Neher, Andrew. “A Physiological Explanation of Unusual Behavior in Ceremonies Involving Drums.” Human Biology 34, no. 2 (1962): 151.</ref>

Neher also points out many indigenous drumming includes polyrhythms, and other forms of stimulation (tactile/kinesthetic) <ref>Neher, Andrew. “A Physiological Explanation of Unusual Behavior in Ceremonies Involving Drums.” Human Biology 34, no. 2 (1962): 151.</ref>

Harner suggests that a steady rhythm of 205 to 220 BPM is enough to "change consciousness." <ref>Harner, Michael. Cave and Cosmos: Shamanic Encounters with Another Reality. Berkeley, California: North Atlantic Books, 2013.</ref>

: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgD1oruX6WE This Youtube video] contains drum beats of the appropriate speed, and without the somnambulistic distractions of flute.

"the Turks and the Uigur regarded the drum as a " celestial bridge" (rainbow) over which the shaman made his ascent. This idea forms part of the complex symbolism of the drum and the bridge, each of which represents a different formula for the same ecstatic experience: celestial ascent. It is through the musical magic of the drum that the shaman can reach the highest heaven."<ref>Eliade, Mircea. Shamanism: Archaic Techniques of Ecstasy. New York: Penguin Books, 1989. p. 135.</ref>

Michael Drake presents drumming as a practice capable of inducing a "transcendent state of unity consciousness" where one becomes a [[Hollow Bone]], an individual who has or can enter a trance state "without their personal ego. This non-ego hollowness makes a way for Spirit to use them as a healing tool. In this way, the shaman is a channel for higher consciousness."<ref>Drake, Michael. "Drumming the Hollow Bone." Sacred Hoop Magazine 2012. https://shamanicdrumming.com/drumming-the-hollow-bone.html</ref>

Michael Drake suggests a tempo of three to four beats per second. "Focus your attention on the sound of the drum, thereby stilling the chatter in your mind. Allow the drum to empty you - become one with the drum."<ref>Drake, Michael. "Drumming the Hollow Bone." Sacred Hoop Magazine 2012.</ref>

Clearly, shamanic drumming facilitates [[Channeling]], specifically [[Trance Channeling]], a disconnected form of [[Intramonadic Communication]]. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, but the long term goal is not [[Trance Connection]] but [[Perfected Connection]].

Tibetan Pau (Shamans) use drums, bells, and chanting "The pau are wild because they enter trance by simultaneously and loudly playing a small two-sided, hourglass-shaped dharu11 (hand drum) and shang [gshang] (flat bell), one in each hand, sometimes for an hour or longer."<ref>Peters, Larry. Tibetan Shamanism: Ecstasy and Healing. California: North Atlantic Books, 2016.</ref>

Drumming is called the Shaman's horse.<ref>Harner, Michael. Cave and Cosmos: Shamanic Encounters with Another Reality. Berkeley, California: North Atlantic Books, 2013</ref>

"Worldwide, it appeared that the most common vehicle for the shaman’s journey was auditory driving in the form of simple, monotonous percussion sound. Although this was usually produced by the drum, in some places other percussion instruments were used, such as click sticks used by most Aboriginal peoples of Australia. In the wet tropics of Southeast Asia, shamans normally used gongs and metal bangles instead of drums."<ref>Harner, Michael. Cave and Cosmos: Shamanic Encounters with Another Reality. Berkeley, California: North Atlantic Books, 2013</ref> Harner provides an extensive list of cultures who use drumming to induce [[Connection]].

Researchers are beginning to discover the significance of "rhythm" and how it alters brain function<Ref>Hamilton, Jon. “Scientists Say A Mind-Bending Rhythm In The Brain Can Act Like Ketamine.” NPR.org, 2020. https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/09/16/913565163/scientists-discover-way-to-induce-altered-state-of-mind-without-drugs.</ref> in a way that facilitates connection.

"The doctrines of the Hermetica are a stew of late antique pagan thought. They clearly are not translations from ancient Egyptian, as once was thought, for they have obvious links to aU sorts of Greek intellectual currents. ==Notes==

Church God, specifically the patriarchal and violent God of Western Monotheisms, supports imperialist doctrine and imperialist societies. Mary Daly, for example, points out how a patriarchal God is used was used to justify and deify Richard Nixon and American Imperialist. "...God is an American and Nixon is "his" annointed one..." <ref>Daly, Mary. Beyond God the Father: Toward a Philosophy of Women’s Liberation. Boston: Beacon Press, 1973. p. 16. </ref>

"The widespread conception of the "Supreme Being" as an entity distinct from this world but controlling it according to plan and keeping human beings in a state of infantile subjection has been a not too subtle mask of the divine patriarch. " <ref>Daly, Mary. Beyond God the Father: Toward a Philosophy of Women’s Liberation. Boston: Beacon Press, 1973. p. 18. </ref>

Daly also notes how patriarchal conceptions of God are used to suppress women. "I have already indicated that it would be unrealistic to dismiss the fact that the symbolic and linguistic instruments for communication-which include essentially the whole theological tradition in world religions-have been formulated by males under the conditions of patriarchy. It is therefore inherent in these symbolic and linguistic structures that they serve the purposes of patriarchal social arrangements." <ref>Daly, Mary. Beyond God the Father: Toward a Philosophy of Women’s Liberation. Boston: Beacon Press, 1973. p. 22. </ref>

===[[Book of Power]]===

A template for brainwashing: The initiate's opinions are formed by a "plumb line" that leads them to "voluntarily" accept certain conclusions. Notice the reference to a "plumb line." They say we are encouraged to come to our own conclusions, but the "plumb line" leads us in a direction. We become masters only if we follow the line.

<blockquote>"(The Hermit, Wise man whose influence works discreetly and irresistibly. The Master who has reached complete mastership.) As he works the Initiate reflects. He refuses to act like a machine. The artist is interested in his work, which he loves and understands because he feels it. Rules are not imposed upon him superficially, for he has assimilated them by the process of thoughtful and logical justification. The 'Plumb Line' has directed his mind into the inner area of things, towards Esotericism which escapes the uninitiated."<ref>Wirth, Oswald. Tarot of the Magicians: The Occult Symbols of the Major Arcana That Inspired Modern Tarot. San Francisco. CA: Weiser Books, 1990. p. 171,</ref>
</blockquote>

Success in following the "right" path, a path laid out by the plumb line.

<blockquote>"By comparing this card with two others, the sixth and the twelfth, we shall see that the beardless young man in the former (6th) has chosen the right path. Experience won in the labour of life has rendered him a prudent old man, and prudence united to wisdom will safely lead him to the higher level, which he is anxious to attain (12th card)." <ref>Papus, The Tarot of the Bohemians (Wilshire Book Co, 1978), https://sacred-texts.com/tarot/tob/index.htm. p. 116.</ref></blockquote>

Constitutes the individual as an "eternal seeker" always on path of improvement. The Fool in School. "He is the eternal seeker, the Pilgrim soul."<Ref>Wang, Robert. An Introduction to the Golden Dawn Tarot. Main: Sam Weiser, 1978. p. 128. </ref>

===[[Book of Slavery]]===

Sexism, God as male patriarch. "The Hermit is the Ancient One, the Source of all existence, above all things, yet supporting all. He precedes everything....the Absolute is the Father, or Progenitor, of all things.

Fool in school "Here is the Great Promise. In humanity are the potencies of Divinity, to be evolved by climbing the steeps of experience; and the end of the Path is union with our Source." <ref>Case, Paul Foster. An Introduction to the Study of the Tarot. New York: Kindle Edition, 1920. p. 32.</ref>

===Recovery===

Representing isolation, withdrawal for the purposes of establishing connection.

". Primarily, the card means a withdrawal from the outer world for the purpose of activating the unconscious mind." <ref>Pollack, Rachel. Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom. Harper Collins, 1980. p. 77</ref>

" On the one hand it symbolizes a withdrawal from outer concerns. The person may physically remove himself, but this is not really necessary. What matters is the inner transfer of attention from 'getting and spending' as Wordsworth called our worldly activities, to a person's inner needs. It therefore requires an emotional withdrawal from other people and from activities once thought to be all-important. The card carries within it a sense of deliberate purpose, of withdrawing to work on self-development"<ref>Pollack, Rachel. Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom. Harper Collins, 1980. p. 81</ref>
==Notes==

Maslow wanted to develop a new psychology. The new psychology would include a Eupsychian Theory aimed at creating a eupsychian society, i.e. a good society that would create happy, fully developed humans.

The Eupsychian theory would provide new systems of meaning where religion has so thoroughly failed <ref>A. H. Maslow, Religions, Values, and Peak Experiences (Columbus: Ohio State University Press, 1964), https://amzn.to/2U2Rhgq</ref> and would contribute to a reconceptualizaton of “every area of human knowledge: e.g., economics, sociology, biology, and every profession: e.g., the family, education, religion, etc.” <ref>A. H. Maslow, Motivation and Personality (2nd Ed.) (New York: Harper & Row, 1970), x, https://amzn.to/2OSRmlX.</ref>. He was explicit about his goals <ref>A. H. Maslow, Towards a Psychology of Being (2nd Edition) (New York: Van Nostrand Reinhold Company, 1968).</ref> and active in developing curriculum <ref>A. H. Maslow, “Some Fundamental Questions That Face the Normative Social Psychologist.,” Journal of Humanistic Psychology 8, no. 2 (April 1968): 143.</ref> He was also clear that even though the work that had been done as of 1970 was only the “bare beginning” <ref>Maslow, Motivation and Personality (2nd Ed.), xxi.</ref>, nevertheless progress had been made. In 1969 he writes that “There is now available a new conception, of a higher possibility, of the healthy society. There are tools now available to judge and compare societies. One society can be judged to be better than another society, or healthier or possessing more ‘growth-fostering-potential.’ We can talk about the value of the society, or the function of the society-that is, the greatest coming to fulfillment of the people in the society” <ref>Maslow, A. H., “The Farthest Reaches of Human Nature,” The Journal of Transpersonal Psychology 1, no. 1 (1969): 7.</ref>.

The Journal of Humanistic Psychology and the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology, both of which Maslow helped to found, were originally intended as steps towards a Eupsychian psychology and society.
Buddha, a person who has awakened...<ref> Wallis, Glenn. Basic Teachings of the Buddha. New York: The Modern Library, 2007.</ref>

The Buddha's teaching are embodied. "The Buddha will ask you to “go against the flow” and resist this human proclivity. He will want to remind you that “it is within this six-foot body, with its mind and its concepts” that he realized and subsequently declared the teachings (''Samyuttanikya'' 1.2.26). Can we take a clear-eyed view of the Buddha as a fully embodied ''ordinary'' human being, as depicted in this statement? It may turn out that such a view is actually ''necessary'' for an understanding of his teachings."<ref>Wallis, Glenn. ''Basic Teachings of the Buddha''. New York: The Modern Library, 2007.</ref>

==Quotes==

"Listen! The deathless has been realized. I will instruct you. I will teach you the way. Practicing as instructed, by realizing for yourselves here and now through direct insight, you will soon enter on and dwell in the ultimate refuge of the higher life, for the sake of which people properly go from their home into homelessness."<ref> Wallis, Glenn. Basic Teachings of the Buddha. New York: The Modern Library, 2007.</ref>

An ascetic named Upaka saw me on the road between Gayimage and the place of my awakening, and, on seeing me, spoke to me as follows. “Your faculties are clear, brother. Your complexion is pure and bright. Under whose supervision have you become a seeker? Who is your teacher? Whose teachings do you accept?” When this was said, I replied to Upaka in verse.

“Master of all,
knower of all, am I.
Unstained among
the things of the world,
I abandon all.
With the withering of craving,
I am liberated.
Having realized this condition
completely on my own
to whom should I point as a teacher?
“I have no teacher;
a person like me cannot be found.
In this world with its resplendent beings,
I have no equal.
“For, in this world,
I am highly accomplished.
I am the teacher supreme.
I, alone, am fully and soundly awakened.
Cooled am I, and quenched.
“To set in motion
the wheel of teaching
I am going to the city of Kasi.
In a world become blind,
I beat the drum of the deathless.”<ref> Wallis, Glenn. Basic Teachings of the Buddha. New York: The Modern Library, 2007.</ref>

A practical concern with healing and health

"Go, wander for the welfare of the human multitude, for the happiness of the human multitude, out of compassion for the world, for the benefit, the good, and the happiness of people and resplendent beings. Let no two of you go in the same direction. Teach both the meaning and the idiom of the dhamma, which is good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end. Manifest the completely fulfilled and perfectly purified life of training. There are people who have but little dust in their eyes, who are falling away because they have not heard of the way (dhamma). They will understand the teachings (dhamma). I, too, will go—to Senanigama in Uruvela—to teach the dhamma. (Samyuttanikaya 1.4.5)"
Divided Religion into tribal, mystical, and charismatic.<ref>Geertz, Clifford. “Religion as a Cultural System.” In ''Anthropological Approaches to the Study of Religion'', edited by Michael Banton, 1–44. Oxon: Routledge, 2004. p. 26.</ref>

Presumes Religion rests upon acceptance of authority (it does). However, does not specify the authority figures are typically representatives of the [[Accumulating Class]]

Recognizes that religions often use drama and emotions to manipulate and indoctrinate.

Asserts religion is completely non-rational

Suggest that the study of religion proceeds in two stages. "first, an analysis of the system of meanings embodied in the symbols which make up the religion proper, and, second, the relating of these systems to social-structural and psycho- logical processes."<ref>Geertz, Clifford. “Religion as a Cultural System.” In ''Anthropological Approaches to the Study of Religion'', edited by Michael Banton, 1–44. Oxon: Routledge, 2004. p. 42.</ref>

[[Clifford Geertz]] "...a religion is:

(l) a system of symbols which acts to (2) establish powerful, pervasive, and long-lasting moods and motivations in men by (3) formulating conceptions of a general order of existence and (4) clothing these conceptions with such an aura of factuality that (5) the moods and motivations seem uniquely realistic.<ref>Geertz, Clifford. “Religion as a Cultural System.” In Anthropological Approaches to the Study of Religion, edited by Michael Banton, 1–44. Oxon: Routledge, 2004. p. 4.</ref>
<blockquote>
Geertz also notes religion helps deal with the existential despair caused by "Bafflement, suffering, and a sense of intractable ethical paradox..." <ref>Geertz, Clifford. “Religion as a Cultural System.” In Anthropological Approaches to the Study of Religion, edited by Michael Banton, 1–44. Oxon: Routledge, 2004. p. 14.</ref></blockquote>According to Geertz, religion arises partly in response to the [[Problem of Meaning]]. "The Problem of Meaning...is one of the things that drive men [sic] toward belief in gods, devils, spirits, totemic principles, or the spiritual efficacy of cannibalism..."<ref>Geertz, Clifford. “Religion as a Cultural System.” In ''Anthropological Approaches to the Study of Religion'', edited by Michael Banton, 1–44.
