Defence Mechanisms are cognitive and behavioural operations of the Physical Unit that are selected and reinforced by evolutionary processes because of their direct or indirect contribution to the defence and survival of the Physical Unit. Defence mechanisms are designed to help the physical unit avoid and alleviate pain, either through direct behavioural action or through subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) cognitive and emotional operations.

Notes
Defence mechanisms are generally functional in the short term since they up and direct psychic energy towards defense, however when chronically activated they become highly toxic and can lead to various emotional, psychological, spiritual, and even physical pathologies.

Defence mechanisms are observable.

Defence Mechanisms may be broken down into two general categories, Physical Defence Mechanisms and Psychological Defence Mechanisms

DMs may be internally directed or externally directed.

Defence mechanisms may be best understood by considering them like software programs coded into the genetic substrate of the Physical Unit. The programs are coded as a result of experience and accessed via associative pathways.

Genetic software generally consists of two elements, 1) eliciting conditions and 2) "winning" responses. Eliciting conditions are any conditions or experiences that the brain of the physical unit perceives of as salient, and which consequently elicit the mechanism, and winning responses are those responses that have lead, in the past, to both short-term and long-term survivability. The "winning" response is the response that allows the transmission of genetic materials to the next generations.

Defence mechanisms are supported by, among other things, the endocrine systems of the body. Activation of survival programming often involves releases of specific chemicals (adrenaline, testosterone, etc.) designed to both prepare for, and encourage, a certain Survival Response (e.g., fight, flight, or submission).

Activation of survival programming often involves releases of specific chemicals (adrenaline, testosterone, etc.) designed to both prepare for, and encourage, a certain Survival Response (e.g., fight, flight, or submission).

Stress and anxiety are toxic and long-term exposure weakens the physical unit. Defence mechanisms work to ensure survival directly, but also to lower stress and anxiety.

It should be noted that since the evolution of the physical unit proceeds slowly (i.e. over millennial and not centuries or decades), current defence mechanisms originate in the hunting and gathering past of this planet. Some defence mechanisms may be rooted in an ancient environment and may no longer be appropriate (or necessary) for modern conditions.

Defence mechanisms are exploited by System Agents in the construction and reinforcement of The System. The survival mechanism of repression is exploited, for example, in order to subvert awareness of the bitter realities of this world. Similarly, Action or Avoidance mechanisms are exploited in order to control behaviour.

Elite spirituality may be easily identified by its advocacy of violence (let's go kill some evil people), exclusion (only the "chosen" get in), and patriarchy (women are stripped of power and dignity).

More specifically, elite spirituality may be recognized by the presence of an Old Energy Creation Template.

Consider Persian Autocrat Aradashir took control of Zoroastrianism to further his imperial agenda.

A pedophile diverts the attention of a victim with candy.

When we divert and distract, we point attention away from the things we do not want to remember, and towards something entirely different. For example, kids or other adults may be talking about child abuse, but a guilty parent or childcare worker, in order to head off a conversation that might eventually lead to a discussion of their abusive practices, might distract with ice cream and cookies. Or, a father who sexually abuses his children might use distraction (i.e., a trip to Disney World) to shift attention from the behaviour, encourage his children to forget, and repress his awareness of the act. Similarly, a politician that points at the evil “over there” may be distracting from the evil that they do every day. Distraction is quite common, of course, and we are exposed to it every day.
Note, forward movement on an authentic path of awakening does not occur without a formal signal of intent. Therefore an awakening affirmation should be considered a necessary and important part of your daily spiritual routine.
When people experience visions, when they experience archetypes, they talk about them and comment on them. When the individual that provides the commentary is the individual that had the experience, we call this Primary Elaboration. Compare this with Secondary Elaboration which is when a third party who did not have the experience choose to interpret, comment, and prognosticate on the archetype.

The notion of cosmic good and cosmic evil fighting it out in battle can be traced to the Persian Mystic Zoroaster, who operated circa 1,000 B.C.E. He taught that the forces of Good, headed by the great God Ahura Mazda, fought against the forces of evil, headed by Angra Mainyu. The fight was part of cosmic process of "mixture" that led to "plurality and diversity" of creation.

Examples
In Western exoteric teachings, good and evil are personified as cosmic forces battling it out in a cosmic war. In Western esoteric teachings, initiates are taught that there should be a balance or equilibrium between Good and Evil, see Justice, The Wheel of Fortune. Why? Because this allows them to manipulate and confuse the masses.

Western Gnostic, which is pervasive throughout the Orthodox and alternative Christian Corpus, teaches this world as created by an evil deity as a prison for the soul. "By attaining gnōsis (knowledge) of their divine origin, gnostics were set on their way to escape from the world of the demiurge and his demonic helpers, the archons, who would try to prevent them from rising up through the heavenly spheres after death and finding their way back to their divine home of Light." Note in this tail elements that fit both the Fool in Schoo and Good versus Evil archetypes.

In Western esoteric teachings, the battle is sometimes conceived as between warring aspects of the psyche. The ultimate goal is acceptance and integration of the "dark side" of our psychic selves, hatred, fear, loathing, etc.

<blockquote>Half-way between the east and west, and north and south, in a properly instituted temple are placed two upright pillars.6 One of these is colored white, the other black. These pieces of lodge furniture are emblematical of the two opposites functioning in the diverse operations of nature. Just as the temple represents in miniature the whole of life by which we may ever be confronted, or, rather, the manifold parts of our own inner nature, so these two pillars symbolize some aspect of these phenomena. They represent light and darkness, heat and cold. In man, they stand for love and hate, joy and pain, mind and emotion, life and death, sleeping and waking. Every pair of opposites conceivable to the human mind find their representation in the implication of these two pillars....The technique under consideration consists primarily in the conscious reconciliation of opposing forces. It is this which
has been called the development of the Golden Flower.</blockquote>

While explaining the meaning of the tarot archetype Justice, Papus says "Here we find the continuation of the symbolism of the 2nd and 5th arcana. The Seated woman occupies the Centre between the columns, the first idea of the equilibrium between Good and Evil."

A Reddit meme demonstrates the prevalence of the good versus evil meme in Hollywood. Here, good is played by a white male who eventually destroys evil, personified as some vile and powerful character. This meme also highlights Judge and Punish/Reward, and Salvation.
Self-Determination Theory is an approach to human motivation and personality that highlights the importance of an individuals "inner resources" for personality development
and behavioural self-regulation. The theory recognizes three needs, the need for competence, the need for relatedness, and the need for autonomy, as essential for the emergence of self-determination.

Notes
The goal of SDT is to facilitate internal motivation, as opposed to external coercion. "Comparisons between people whose motivation is authentic (literally, self-authored or endorsed) and those who are merely externally controlled for an action typically reveal that the former, relative to the latter, have more interest, excitement, and confidence, which in turn is manifest both as enhanced performance, persistence, and creativity." .

"Also, research revealed that not only tangible rewards but also threats, deadlines, directives, pressured evaluations, and imposed goals diminish intrinsic motivation because, like tangible rewards, they conduce toward an external perceived locus of causality. In contrast, choice, acknowledgment of feelings, and opportunities for self direction were found to enhance intrinsic motivation because they allow people a greater feeling of autonomy"

Self-determination theory seems to be motivated by human resource concerns, specifically the need to encourage the internalization of external regulations and behavioural requirements.

SDT ignores many of the Seven Essential Needs, focussing instead on a narrow band of "three psychological needs," the need for relatedness (need for love/inclusion), competence, and autonomy (need for power/self-esteem), as precursors to the emergence of intrinsic motivation and self-determination. It does not include an analysis of safety, satisfaction of physical needs, alignment, or connection as relevant or important, presumably because only a limited authenticity is required in work organization.
Notes
The Tree of Lights that appears on the cover of The Book of Light is a visual representation of the Fabric of Consciousness and the trillions of instantiated Monads that make it up.

The Fabric of Consciousness represents the sum total of all instantiated Monads that exist as "points of Light" within the unfolding Fabric of Consciousness.

The Fabric of Consciousness represents the manifest universe as an unfolding of Consciousness.

The Cabbalistic Tree of Life is an attempt to visually represent the Unfolding of Consciousness/Unfolding/Emanation of Consciousness

The Cabbalah presents consciousness in three states, Ain, Ain Soph, and Ain Soph Aur

The concept provides for a non-hierarchical and authority free conceptualization of Spirit. The tree like structure and the expansion of monads towards the bottom represents the expansion of number as The Fabric unfolds from Source, and nothing more. Unlike Old Energy spiritualities which posit some kind of "executive force," The Fabric of Consciousness provides for an egalitarian representation of the creative forces of this universe. It is not simply that we are all equal in the eyes of God, it is that we are all the Eyes of God. We are all intensification of God Light within the cosmic tapestry/Fabric of Consciousness.

Experience of The Fabric can sometimes occur during powerful Connection Experiences. "Subjects speak of participating in and merging with pure (i.e., content-free) energy, white light; of witnessing the breakdown of macroscopic objects into vibratory patterns, visual nets, the collapse of external structure into wave. patterns, the awareness that everything is a dance of particles, sensing the smallness and fragility of our system, visions of the void, of world-ending explosions, of the cyclical nature of. creation and dissolution, etc.". Also,
"I was entering into another dimension of existence. 'I' was not. Everything was totally dissolved into a flow of matter continuously moving. No time, no space. A feeling of color, but indescribable. Feeling of movement mainly. Awareness that I, the others, are only collections of clusters of molecules, which are all part of the same stream."
A Conversation Experience (a.k.a. Religious Conversion, Spiritual Conversion, or simply conversion) is a sudden, powerful, but usually brief expansion of Consciousness into the Physical Unit, a Connection Experience in LP words. It is a term commonly used by Western Christians to describe a sudden "turning away" from a "prideful self" and the turning towards, and even union with, a powerful, perceived presence, understood by the Christian as God, often in spite of previous, intractable and even hostile resistance to the idea.
Notes
The original meaning of "conversion" revolved around the rootconvertere, which means "to turn around." "The spatial image is one of revolving, reversing, or changing direction, though from the beginning the word was used in a religious sense." In this sense, the term "conversion" is a syncretic term for Is a syncretic term::Alignment

Bill Wilson, co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, despite being an avowed atheist, had a powerful Conversion Experience which instantly cured him of an alcohol addiction so bad that his doctor was predicting permanent brain damage and death if he did not achieve total abstention.

Early iterations of AA seem to have focussed quite explicitly on the elicitation of conversion experience as a powerful cure for the alcoholic's addiction, though later this was largely pushed aside.

Disconnection results in the lowering of the Consciousness Quotient of the Physical Unit, attenuation of higher brain function, and a consequent reduction in moral capacity, intelligence, compassion, empathy, intuition, creativity, independence, and identity.

Disconnection is caused by:

* The System and Indoctrination into the Ideology of Limitation
* Toxic Socialization
* Lack of Preparation
* Wrong Thought, Wrong Action, and Wrong Environment caused by Indoctrination
* Hurt, pain, chronic stress, and suffering of all types.

Disconnection leads to Disjuncture and Disconnection Pathology

Hell is the loneliness, isolation, anguish, pain, and despair that is often the result of disconnection

Petey Stevens was aware that unmet needs "close" or "shut down" and individual. "If a baby's caretakers are not available to the baby because of death or another absence such as work, are not supportive, or are abusive because of emotional immaturity or immorality, the baby grows up with negative 'charge' and self-destructive beliefs attached to his or her communications. The ... person is "shut down" or closed" to his or her soul's feelings or truth."

Rumi
Explains disconnection/heedlessness as necessary to the maintenance of the world. If it wasn't for disconnection, humans would not go about the tasks necessary to express the attributes of God. <blockquote>God created the universe to make the Hidden Treasure manifest. Hence He wants the world to exist in order for it to display the unlimited creative potentialities of His Attributes. But for the world to remain in existence, true knowledge of things as they are must be kept from most of its inhabitants. Otherwise they would cease to occupy themselves with activities necessary for the display of the full range of His Attributes. So God desires the existence of certain things which one might not expect; but of course not in themselves, but rather as the concomitants of His ultimate goal in creating the world. For example, God desires that heedlessness and forgetfulness of Him should exist in the world.

The world is kept standing through heedlessness. If there were no heedlessness, this world would not remain. Yearning for God, recollection of the next world, spiritual intoxication, and ecstacy are the architects of that world. If all these displayed themselves, every one of us would go to that world and not remain here. But God wants us here so that the two worlds may exist. So He has appointed two magistrates, heedlessness and heedfulness, so that both houses may flourish. (F 109/120)

The pillar of this world, oh beloved, is heedlessness: Wakefulness is this world's bane.

Wakefulness comes from that world; when it prevails, this world is laid fiat.

Wakefulness is the sun and cupidity the ice, wakefulness water and this world dirt.

A few drops trickle down from that world so that cupidity and envy may not roar too loudly in this world.

If the trickle from the Unseen should increase, neither skills nor failings would remain in the world. (M I 2066-70)</blockquote>
The Automobile Metaphor is a metaphor used to illustrate the relationship between Spiritual Ego as driver, and Physical Unit as vehicle. Using this metaphor, the automobile is your body and the driver of the car is your Spiritual Ego.

The automobile metaphor emphasizes the fact that the vehicle belongs to Self. In order to be considered a fully functioning vessel, the physical unit must be responsive to and aligned with the nature and intent of the higher Self.

The metaphor works best when using a modern self-driving vehicle with artificial intelligence. In this case, the AI represents the Bodily Ego, the car represents the Physical Unit, and the driver represents the Spiritual Ego.
Notes
Activation, as in an individual's emergence as an active change agent, is often noted and commented on by individuals who research connection and authentic spirituality, or who experience authentic connection events.

Julian Price notes that the spiritual rituals of the Sioux nation are not aimed at the invocation of faith alone, but generally invoke action as well. "Traditions surrounding the Thunder Spirits express a desire for dynamic action...and generally dispense with hierarchy of any kind.

William White points to the biographies of individuals like Handsome Lake, Bill Wilson, and Malcolm X, all of whom had powerful connection experiences, and all of whom became active change agents after their experience, trying to motivate, heal, and transform others

Within Islam, the Muslim Brotherhood inspired Sahwa movement.

One of the key components of the Alcoholics Anonymous framework for cure and recovery is "vigorous action", activation and empowerment, both in "strenuous effort to face, and to be rid of, the things in ourselves which had been blocking us...." and also action to help others achieve insight and cure.

Under healthy global and social conditions (i.e. conditions filled with love, support, prosperity, grace, and guidance), activation occurs as a normal and safe part of the human development process.

Activation also refers to Chakra and Kundalini Activation. An individual who has chakras and kundalini activated is an activated and empowered creative force.

Activation occurs first at the individual level, then at the collective level, and finally at the planetary level. The global activation process is visually illustrated in the Great Invocation meditation/visualization.

Current planetary conditions are not healthy. Currently, we live with a Toxic Socialization process designed to prevent activation and prop up a destructive and venal System. The toxic socialization process is designed to suppress Consciousness (i.e. lower Consciousness Quotient) and distort and destroy the energy systems of the body in order to prevent activation.
Therefore under current conditions activation often requires conscious, and possibly therapeutic, intervention.

Wiccan pathbreaker Starhawk emphasizes the progressive, political, active aspects of Wicca, leading her to nonviolent direct actions to protest nuclear power, nuclear weapons, imperialism, and patriarchy.

Pally notes, of American New Evangelicals, that there is a component of active, get out there and change things, in their spirituality because they recognize that "Jesus was...a new society builder....Immanent as well as transcendent, he had this-worldly intent to model a new way of living in the polis. In this, he was political...."

"We cannot lightly pass over the spiritual service of mystics. Far from being the unpractical, dreamy persons they are too often conceived to have been, they have weathered storms, endured conflicts, and lived through water-spouts which would have overwhelmed souls whose anchor did not reach beyond the veil. They have discovered an inner refuge, where they enjoy the truce of God, even amid the din of the world's warfare. They have led great reforms, championed movements of great moment to humanity, and they have saved Christianity - from being submerged under scholastic formalism and ecclesiastical systems, which were alien to man's essential nature and need. They have been spiritual leaders, they are the persons who shifted the levels of life for the race. 1 They have been able to render these services because they felt themselves allied inwardly with a larger personal Power than themselves, and they have been aware that they were in immediate correspondence with Some One—a Holy Spirit, a Great Companion—who was working with them and through them. This furtherance of life by incoming energy, the heightening of power by correspondence with what seems to be God, is, however, by no means confined to a few chosen spirits and rare geniuses; it is a wide spread fact to be reckoned with everywhere. There are multitudes of men and women in out-of-the-way places, in backwoods towns, and on uneventful farms, who are the salt of the earth and the light of the world in their communities, because they have had experiences which revealed to them Realities which their neighbours missed, and powers to live by which the mere " church-goers " failed to find."
"For example, if you grew up in Catholic home and you start to challenge the idea that hitting your children is a good thing, you may get strong resistance and push back. Maybe you will be shamed and ridiculed. Maybe you will be told to go read the bible. In some cases, in families where interpersonal violence is the norm, you might even be physically harmed. If that happens, if, when you question or challenge an idea you are met with forms of resistance and push back, that is a good indication that your dealing with some sort of ideology."

He was a reformer that attempted to impose elite and sexist values on the popular and democratic Spiritualism of the time. This he eventually accomplished with Madam Blavatsky and Theosophy.

The theorizing of Blavatsky and Olcott amounted to nothing less than an attempt to effect a paradigm shift from spiritualism to what would be called theosophy-from a tradition of mediums (predominantly female) who passively channeled spirits of the dead in the darkness to a tradition of adepts (predominantly male or, in Blavatsky's case, ostensibly androgynous) who worked in full light, cajoling "elementary spirits" and actively manipulating occult forces in accordance with occult laws. While Blavatsky stressed the philosophical benefits of this shift, Olcott underscored its moral virtues. His argument incorporated broader cultural assumptions regarding the dangerous passivity of women and the willful activity of men. Since mediums worked in the dark and had to be passive in order to be successful, Olcott reasoned, they were "feeble to resist [the] evil" that inevitably lurked in the night. Adepts, on the other hand, were occupationally active and worked without cabinets and in full light. More adroit than mediums at evading "the imps of darkness," they tended, like modern-day boy scouts, to be "chaste, temperate, conscientious and brave."

On the evening of September 7, 1875, at a gathering of spiritualists convened in Blavatsky's Manhattan apartment, Olcott rose to propose the formation of a new organization devoted not to the comparative study of Asian religious traditions but to the scientific investigation of spiritual phenomena. The proposal met with unanimous assent and the next evening the association was duly organized with all the pomp and circumstance Victorian fastidiousness required. Almost all of the sixteen founding members-Blavatsky was the notable exception--came from the metropolitan gentry. Lawyers, doctors, and journalists were all represented in the society's ranks. Soon, these reformers had settled on a name (the "Theosophical Society"), a president (Olcott), and a corresponding secretary (Blavatsky).
Formation, what physicists might call inertia, is the primary shaper of physical creation.
Notes
Formation may be contrasted with Force.

Formation is applied to Creation through the application of Will/Intent and Expectation.

Force + Formation = Creation

The concept of force in creation is ancient. Notably, the Egyptian God Ptah, patron god of stonemasons(!), is the anthropomorphization of the process if "in-form" ation. "The production of a building or statue involves a process of 'in-formation,' in which a concept originally present only in the artisan's mind in-forms--is imprinted in--raw material through his actions. A block of stone that has been cared into a statue...is materially the same after the process...yet is had also transcended its original raw state: it is now something that it was not before, the representation (tjt 'image') of another reality. What has made the difference between the original and the final state is the action that has in-formed it with the sculptor's concept." (Allen, 1988: 46).

Edward Carpenter seems vaguely aware of the force+formation=creation equation.Speaking of the idea of Justice, "though it may be but a sentiment at first and on its inner side, yet quickly on its outer side it gives itself structure, and regulates the conflicting desires and emotions and needs of the people; and these emotions and desires so regulated from above do each of them in their turn generate and regulate groups of habits and customs; and these again each in their turn innumerable individual acts. And so the idea of Justice becomes creative and alive throughout the whole State.</blockquote>

At one point, Carpenter even refers to the "formative forces...which manifest themselves in the race life."

Oswald Wirth associated the Masonic Empress card with form, ideas, and archetypes, i.e. "...ideal forms or pure ideas according to which everything is created." As he notes, "This sovereign, dazzling with light represents 'Creative INtelligence', the mother of form, pictures, and ideas." . Note the inappropriate and sexist association of form/formation with the female gender.
When your Mind of God Chakra (a.k.a., your Crown Chakra) is aligned, you use your intelligence not to exploit or harm others but to uplift and empower.

When your Voice of God (a.k.a.throat chakra) is aligned, you use your expressive capabilities to uplift and empower and not to suppress, silence, or make others feel bad (by for example calling them names).

Notes
"These original meanings are reflected in several European languages in which derivations of esoterikós are used for everything that is known by only a small group of insiders with purportedly superior knowledge (see Hanegraaff 2006, 336)."

The term is related to the term occultisme which "was first used in 1842 in a French dictionary entry to denote the dubious hidden agendas of priests and aristocrats."

The term was later co-opted by "Alphonse‐Louis Constant, a.k.a. Eliphas Lévi, whose writings are seminal for modern magic and occultism, adopted the term from Ragon and popularized it. Occultism became synonymous with ancient wisdom about the mysteries of nature – with magic, alchemy, Kabbalah, and astrology as major occult disciplines..." Ironicially, Lévi and other occultists were involved in creating secret systems of knowledge intended for elite audiences and designed for social control, as the example of the Freemasons Tarot demonstrates. Their "revision" of the term was likly an intentional effort to downplay and obscure the elitist nature of esotericism by providing a diversionary gloss over the term.

"Scholars of religion often use esotericism to categorize activities based on the practice “of reserving certain kinds of salvific knowledge for a selected elite of initiated disciples” (Hanegraaff 2006, 337). Secrecy as social and religious capital (see also von Stuckrad 2010, 54–59) involves concealed membership, secret doctrines and rituals, secret signs and codes, vows of silence, hidden meeting places, probation and preparatory periods, followed by initiations through skilled teachers or priests. Insofar as esoteric forms of group building intend to survive for more than one generation, their secret cannot be kept totally hidden within the core group. An often complex intertwining of conceal- ment and disclosure takes place."

Esoteric Schools
Mahayana Buddhism, " the Bauls of Bengal and of certain schools of Hindu tantra can also be categorized as “esoteric” in this sense, as can European initiatory societies like the Masonic lodges, the Order of the Golden and Rosy Cross, the Illuminati, the Theosophical Society, and the Hermetic order of the Golden Dawn with its different offshoots."
