Steering emotions can be positive or negative. Positive steering emotions are emotions like satisfaction, happiness, joy, rapture, and bliss. Negative steering emotions help identify problem spots and can also help guide the individual towards [[Alignment]], health, and stronger [[Connection]].

Positive steering emotions help identify areas of strengths, things that you should be doing and that represent authentic moves towards [[Alignment]] and [[Connection]]

Steering emotions are primarily useful while the individual remains disconnected from [[Consciousness]]. When an individual is fully (or even partially connected), alignment is determined [[noesis|noetically]], i.e. by a strong internal knowing.

Steering emotions work by encouraging and/or discouraging a physical unit from certain actions and behaviors. An individual who feels happiness when working a specific job, engaging a specific task, or existing in a certain way can feel confident their actions are aligned. An individual feeling guilt and shame may feel confident that they are doing or thinking something that is out of alignment with higher [[Monadic Consciousness]].

Steering emotions only work if an individual physical unit is "listening" to their body's emotions. If an individual has been trained not to listen (for example by a toxic gender socialization process that discourages boys from having authentic emotions), or if they have been trained to misinterpret said emotions (perhaps because of Hollywood style manipulation and redefinition of emotions), steering does not work.

An 18th-century Christian mystic and scientist by the name of Emanuel Swedenborg noted the reality and significance of these “emotive communications.” He called them “signs” and said that he felt “assured his thoughts were on the right track when he experienced what he called “a sign’:’…a certain cheering light and joyful flash…that darts through some sacred temple of the brain” George F. Dole and Robert H. Kirven, A Scientist Explores Spirit: A Biography of Emanuel Swedenborg (Pennsylvania: Chrysalis books, 1997) p. 34.

The LP Stages

*[[Novice]] - '''One who has begun to question''' This is a person who has begun thinking that there may be more to life and reality than what they were taught in the schools and churches of their youth.
*[[Initiate]] - '''One who has begun to practice''' This is a person who has started to search around for deeper truth, and has initiated some form of [[Connection Practice]], such as [[Mindfullness]], [[Meditation]], and so on. Note that at this stage the individual may not have depth of understanding, but they may have begun putting "two and two" together.
*[[Adept]] - '''One who has begun to understand''' This is a person who has experienced some success in expanding their [[CQ]], and who has begun to understand deeper levels of truth present in the LP System.
*[[Master]] - '''One who has begun to know''' A master is a perfected adept. This is an individual who can initiate connection at will and who enters connected states regularly in order to expand, deepen, ground, and grow.

Movement up the stage is accompanied by gradually increasing [[CQ]]

It should be clearly understood that these stages do not refer to the condition or quality of the [[Resident Monadic Consciousness]] but the extent to which the physical, neurological, and conceptual apparatus of the [[Physical Unit]] has matured/purified/healed enough to allow significant inflows of [[Consciousness]]. Thus these are a measure of the extent to which [[The Vessel]] has been prepared and higher consciousness has settled into the [[Physical Unit]].

It should be noted that the mere influx of consciousness is insufficient to assess one's "level." High levels of [[Awakening]] can be associated with confusion, disorientation, and even madness, especially when [[Awakening]] occurs without [[Lightning Path|proper guidance]].

It should be noted that proper maturation of the [[Physical Unit]] depends not only on the individual's own efforts, but the efforts of those around him, from parents, through schools, media, government, to society. Proper nutrition, a loving, nurturing, and stimulating environment, are pre-requisites that not only enable healthy and strong maturation of the [[Physical Unit]] but also its full [[Awakening]], [[Activation]], and [[Ascension]].

It should be noted that it is the job of all healers to assist with healing the [[Physical Unit]] when, because of toxic local, social, and global conditions, injuries have resulted, scars have been formed, chakra flows have been stunted, and proper maturation has therefore not been completed. Short of the death of an individual physical unit, healing of that unit is always possible.

Finally, we may add a fifth stage of awakening, that of the [[Avatar]], to represent those who attain full mastery, but then go on to further study and training enabling them to teach the spiritual arts and sciences to a veiled and hostile world such as this one.

There are two basic categorizations of attainment in Buddhism "...the ordinary person, called “the uninstructed worldling” (assutavā puthujjana), and the wise follower of the Buddha, called the “instructed noble disciple” (sutavā ariyasāvaka).<ref>Bodhi, Bhikkhu, ed. In the Buddha’s Words: An Anthology of Discourses from the Pali Canon. Wisdom Publications, 2005. p. 19</ref> According to Budda, these two classes of people react differently to the things of the world.

There are four basic categories of ARMs.

Primary ARM -> Repression

Pathological ARMs -> Dissociation, Regression, Conversion

ExternalArms
Compartmentalization – suppressing awareness by breaking your life and your cognitive/emotional processes into discrete spaces. When you come home at night, you block out exploitation and abuse you perpetrate at work. When you go to work in the morning, you block out violence in the home. When you go to Church, you do not think about the hypocrisies in your daily life.
Denial– simple refusal to accept reality “as it is.” My mom beat me with a wooden spoon and leather belts, but she denies it to this day. The equivalent external ARM is repression.
Distortion – reshaping reality to avoid awareness of disjunctive realities. “What doesn’t kill you leaves a scar” justifications distort our understanding of violence and abuse and provide a justification for them.
Humor is a form of distortion. Using humor to change the “meaning” of reality. Making sexist, racist, homophobic jokes in an attempt to render the abusive behaviours acceptable, or gain social support.
Intellectualization – Not a defense mechanisms by itself, but a particular form of compartmentalization, dissociation, diversion, using the powers of the intellect
Dissociation – detachment from reality. Disconnection, especially intellectual. Daydreaming through dissociative disorders and fugue.
Diversion/Distraction – engaging in other activities, behaviours that draw attention away from issues in reality. For example, getting into a running club and spending all your time away from family in order to avoid the toxicities/issues at home.
Rationalization – “the justification of one's behaviour and motivations by substituting "good" acceptable reasons for the actual motivations.”

Internal Arms

Dissociation – detachment from reality. Disconnection, especially emotional.1 Daydreaming. Dissociative disorders. Typically used in an attempt to avoid stress/pain/conflict in the environment.
• Diversion/Distraction – engaging in other activities, behaviours that allow one draw attention away from feelings. For example, getting into a running club and spending your entire time running. Includes obsessions, compulsions, hypochondriasis, etc.
• Repression – forced submersion of thoughts (I am doing something wrong) and feelings, like guilt, shame, etc. For the equivalent internal ARM, see Denial.
• Regression – fall back to childhood states, allowing only simpler, childlike emotions and awareness.
• Projection – projecting guilt, shame, other negative emotions and thoughts onto others.
• Reaction formation – choreographing the opposite emotions. Denial.

Maslow has some interesting things to say about defense mechanisms, especially in light of the LP concept of [[Alignment]], also about the nature of therapy (it is about uncovering rather than molding, and that even neurosis are somehow aimed at the g\ratification of human needs (see [[Seven Essential Needs]]. Thus for example OCD may be an attempt to satisfy one's need for safety by routinizing activity and blocking out toxic impositions.

"A fifth axiom of self-actualization theory is my contention-as yet unproven that neurosis must be considered a psychological defense and not basic to human
nature. Furthermore, neurosis must be viewed as a defense against the intrinsic self, our deeper layers, full humanness, growth, and self-actualization. From this assumption, I have argued vigorously that effective counseling and psychotherapy are Taoistic or uncovering, rather than involving mainly shaping,molding, or indoctrinating....It may be relevant to point out here that ordinary neurosis and even the valve pathologies like delinquency may consequently be viewed as efforts toward the gratification of basic and meta-needs, but under the conditions of anxiety, fear, lack of courage." <ref>———. “Critique of Self-Actualization. For LP purposes, we break ARMs down into two general categories, External ARMs and Internal ARMs. External ARMs are defense mechanisms aimed at reducing awareness of things external to the individual, like the behaviour of others, conditions at work, bullying by students/teachers, etc. Internal ARMs are defense mechanisms aimed at reducing awareness of things internal to the individual, like disjunctive shame and guilt, or awareness of complicity, etc.

An individual may deploy several ARMs at the same time.

The "winning" response is the response that allows the transmission of genetic materials to the next generations.

Defence mechanisms are supported by, among other things, the endocrine systems of the body. Activation of survival programming often involves releases of specific chemicals (adrenaline, testosterone, etc.) designed to both prepare for, and encourage, a certain Survival Response (e.g., fight, flight, or submission).

You can harm another living being and still not be in sin. For example, it is not a sin to defend yourself or your family or feed your spouse and your kids. Neither it is a sin to eat meat when vegetarianism/veganism is not a viable option.

The Water Glass Metaphor is an ideal representation of the process of spiritual awakening/connection, and a perfect way to explain to children and adults the goal of human [[Development]] which is the expansion/[[Descent of Consciousness]] into the body.

At conception, a drop of Consciousness is poured into the physical container. M. Night Shyamalan's 2016 movie "Split" is a subtle and sophisticated representation of the Fool in School archetype. In Shyamalan's movie, to gain your full evolutionary potential, you need to suffer and be "broken." The "broken" (i.e. those damaged by [[Toxic Socialization]] to the point of beastly violence) are the ones who are pure of heart. They have special powers that allow them to "be whatever they think themselves to be." The rest will "never realize their full potential" and are consequently "sacred food" for the more evolved ones. In this movie, Shylaman encourages acceptance of the notion that violence and hardship are the "lessons" that create better humans, not to mention the subtle justification for predatory behaviour.

The bodily ego is often taken, especially by [[materialists]], to be the locus of an individual's identity and the ultimate ontological source of being. "I think therefore I am," says Descartes. It is understandable how this conclusion may be drawn, especially by someone whose only experience is of [[Normal Consciousness]], but it is erroneous. The little "i" of the bodily ego is a mere refraction of the big "I" (Spiritual Ego) that animates the physical unit.

The bodily ego has no independent existence. Without the animating embrace of [[Spirit]], the brain may show basic autonomic functions and random cerebral activity, but there is no presence. Without the embrace of Spirit, there is no "I," and no "me." However, when Spirit [[The Embrace|embrace]]s a living body, eyes open, identity is refracted, and [[Consciousness]] slowly emerges into the world that surrounds.

The bodily ego, which is rooted in the programmable structures and energy flows of the physical unit, automatically shapes itself in efforts to ensure survival, meet [[needs]], and (if survival and needs are met) full reconnection. Therefore, the root of adolescent and adult pathology may often be found in the twisted shape the bodily ego takes when dealing with [[Toxic Socialization]] and toxic environments.

Pleasure is a general, but by no means exclusive, indicator of survival and needs satisfaction.

Substances which are medium or long-term destructive to the bodily ego/physical unit (for example Heroin/shopping/distance running) that provide pleasure (serotonin release) may become neurologically and psychologically confused with pleasures (eating healthy, exercising).

===Healthy Ego===

A healthy [[Physical Unit]] contains a healthy bodily ego. A healthy bodily ego consists of an ego with a strong sense of self, high self-esteem, realistic self-efficacy, and strong ground with reality (proper perspective), and healthy imagination. A healthy bodily ego is achieved when children are raised in a healthy, safe, loving, and supportive environments (a.k.a. [[Right Environment]] that meets all [[Seven Essential Needs]].

A healthy bodily ego is an ego that is [[Alignment|aligned]] with the [[Spiritual Ego]] thereby allowing the [[Physical Unit|physical unit]] to contain a full measure of the animating [[Monad]]. A healthy ego allows full [[presence]] of [[Consciousness]].

'''Supportive environments''' are those that support the realization of the full psychological, emotional, spiritual, and physical potential of the physical unit as container/vehicle of [[Consciousness]]. Unsupportive (toxic) environments are environments that undermine full potential.

A healthy society that offers a [[Healthy Socialization]] process will ensure that all children are raised in healthy, safe, and loving environments. However, under current psychological and sociological conditions we endure a [[Toxic Socialization]] process. This toxic socialization process does do not support healthy ego development.

[[Capitalism]], because it depends on [[Disconnection|disconnected]] / [[Alienation|alienated]] workers for exploitation, provides unsupportive, unhealthy, unsafe, and unloving environments. Capitalism is a toxic system that damages the physical unit, undermines full potential, and distorts the bodily ego in the interest of private profit and accumulation (RSGME).

The "normal" experience of a bodily ego damaged by toxic socializaton consists of low-grade neurosis accompanied by rigid belief systems, uncritical compliance with establishment norms and values, and lack of empathic Connection to Self (which includes family, community, Gaia, etc). Under those conditions where the [[Physical Unit]] is subject to continuous abuse, and/or where the physical unit experiences premature crown chakra openings, low-grade neurosis may expand into full-blown psychotic dysfunction.

The bodily ego is a sensitive manifestation of cellular consciousness and, when improperly nurtured or actively [[assault|assaulted]], is subject to easy damage. Damage may range from the easy to treat outcome of mild physical abuse to the severe, intractable, and sometimes fatal ego destruction that occurs when children experience chronic neglect and assault.
