Notes

Connection manuals are a recognized thing in the spiritual literature of this world. When introducing the Crest-Jewel of Wisdom, an early Vedic connection manual by Śankarâchârya, Charles Johnston notes he wrote a series of "preparatory works, of catechisms and manuals" designed to make "smooth the path of those who would take the first steps on the path of wisdom." [1] Charles notes "the manuals and catechisms for learners, are complete and perfect. They really teach, quite plainly and lucidly, the first steps on the path of wisdom; they point out, with clear insistence, the qualities that are necessary to make these first steps fruitful."[2]
